2020, NeuroImageCitation Excerpt :In the present study, there was a varying degree of spared perilesional tissue with similar function across monkeys, namely in areas 8AV and 45 B. Both regions play a role in encoding the saliency or behavioural value of contralateral visual targets, which then modulates the allocation of attention (Schwedhelm et al., 2017). Areas 8AV and 45 B are also densely interconnected with oculomotor structures in the surrounding PFC and higher order visual areas (Barbas and Mesulam, 1985, 1981; Yeterian et al., 2012). In Monkey L, both areas 8AV and 45 B are spared; in Monkey S, area 8AV is spared; in Monkey B, area 45 B is spared; and in Monkey F both areas are damaged (see Fig. 2B).
